The National Centre for Recognition and Equivalency of Diplomas (http://www.cnred.edu.ro) is the national authority in charge of recognition and validation of diplomas obtained abroad (for incoming students or scholars) or in Romania (for outgoing students or scholars). Higher education institutions also verify documents related to prior studies, based on the existing legal framework.

In order to have your prior studies recognised, please follow the official procedures outlined below:

•         For citizens of an EU, EEA country and the Swiss Confederation for admission to undergraduate studies, please read the following

•        For citizens from non-EU countries, for admission to undergraduate studies, masters and PhDs, please read the following:

Ø  Persons from EU third countries can be accepted to the national education system if they:

1. have documents testifying their nationality and request the registration for studies in Romania on their own expense;
2. have certificates of study issued by education institutions acknowledged in the country of origin;
3. have submitted their dossier within the deadline set by the Methodology (please access the methodology here https://cnred.edu.ro/en/authentication-of-education-documents-to-be-used-abroad);
4. have chosen an accredited state or private education institution and an accredited specialisation/ study programme;
5. have the approval of the institution where they wish to apply.

In order for the citizens from non-EU countries to receive recognition and validation for their studies they have to:

• Send their dossier (one legalised copy and one photocopy) to the chosen university. The mandatory documents to be included in the dossier can be found in the methodology here - https://www.edu.ro/recunoastere-echivalare-diplome. The dossier has to contain the application for Letter of Acceptance for Studies, presented here, all fields filled in, in two copies;

Documents must be accompanied by legally certified translations in Romanian or in a language of international circulation (French or English), certified for authentication by the Embassy of Romania to the issuer country or endorsed with Hague apostils, if the previous studies were not completed in Romania, in a European Union country or in accordance with the legal assistance agreements signed between Romania and third countries. The complete dossier will be sent to the chosen university, which will evaluate the folder and then inform the Ministry of Education and Scientific Research, which will issue a Letter of acceptance.
