Ploiești is an industrial city, only 60 km away from the capital, Bucharest, but also relatively close to the mountains. Some of the most important refineries are situated in Ploiesti, but Valea Prahovei is also close by, the well-known area with numerous mountain resorts , visited by tourists all year around. In less than an hour by car, you can get to the well-known castles of Peleș, Cantacuzino or Bran (yes, this is Dracula’s castle).

Carol Davila" University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Bucharest (abbreviated to UMFCD) is the core of medical and pharmaceutical higher education in Romania. In 1857, the Romanian-French doctor Carol Davila, founded The National School of Medicine and Pharmacy, known as the first Romanian university of its kind.

UMFCD consists of 4 faculties: General Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry and Midwifery and Nursing. Characterised as an advanced research university by the Ministry of Education, it has access to the facilities of over 20 clinical hospitals all over Bucharest.

Once the University door is opened, students enter a temple of study and human dedication. They are stepping on the footsteps of famous forerunners such as George Emil Palade, holder of the Nobel Prize.

Petroleum-Gas University is the only public university in one the most prosperous and populated, highly industrialized counties of Romania, Prahova County. Its educational offer is very diverse (engineering, computer science, mathematics, chemistry, economics, administrative sciences, philology, education sciences). 
PGU has five faculties: Faculty of Petroleum and Gas Engineering, Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Petroleum Refining and Petrochemistry, Faculty of Economic Sciences and Faculty of Letters and Sciences.
