Program description

Korean Language and literature - Universal Comparative Literature

The undergraduate study program Korean Language and Literature was created in 2008, as part of the Department of Asian Languages and Literatures. It offers students the possibility to study the Korean language and culture both as a Major and a Minor. Graduates are prepared to work in the field of culture and communication, as linguistic consultants, translators, interpreters and international relations consultants.

The Korean Language and Literature program has benefited from support from the Korea Foundation, which dispatched a Visiting Professor (2005-2010) and ensures partial financial support for a Korean language lecturer (2011-present). Starting in 2012, the program has received the support of the Academy of Korean Studies, which annually dispatches a Visiting Professor for Korean language courses.

Moreover, UBB has signed cooperation agreements with several South Korean universities, among which the agreements with Seoul National University and Dongguk University include Exchange Student Programs which offer students enrolled in the Korean Language and Literature program the opportunity to study in the Republic of Korea.

The specialization can be combined with Comparative Universal Literature as a minor. The program outlines cultural differences and enables the dialogue between national literatures by its transdisciplinary opening toward anthropology, sociology, history of the ideas, research of the imaginary, cultural studies, digital humanities and medical humanities.
