English Language and Literature - Comparative Universal Literature
The English language and literature program offers a variety of courses, combining the expertise of philological studies with frontier disciplines that sit at the avant-garde of the humanities. The objective of the study programme is to develop the students’ linguistic and communication capacities, their critical thinking and ability to interpret texts, thus offering future graduates a series of crucial competencies for the workforce, but also for their personal development. The mandatory courses follow the historical evolution of English and American literature (the Medieval and Renaissance English literature, the literature of the Enlightenment, the poetry of the 18th century and Romanticism, the literature of the Victorian Era, the English literature of the 20th century, contemporary English literature, American literature) and developing students’ knowledge of traditional linguistics (phonetics, lexicology, morphology, syntax, language history) and theoretical linguistics (formal semantics, generative grammar). In addition, there are a series of optional and practical courses that enable students to better understand the field of study and relate it to their own interests.
The specialization can be combined with Comparative Universal Literature as a minor. The program outlines cultural differences and enables the dialogue between national literatures by its transdisciplinary opening toward anthropology, sociology, history of the ideas, research of the imaginary, cultural studies, digital humanities and medical humanities.
