Language and Literature - Modern Language and Literature

Bachelor programme (BA/ BSc)

Faculty of Letters CLUJ-NAPOCA

Program description

Finnish Language and Literature - Norwegian Language and Literature

UBB is the only higher education institution in Romania, where Finnish language and literature may be studied as a major subject (from the academic year 2010-2011) or a minor (from the academic year 1992-1993).
The Finnish Language and Literature programme was initiated in 1992, but Finnish language has been taught at our university since the 1890s, and from 1975, Finnish lecturers came to Cluj within the framework of a bilateral cultural cooperation agreement between Finland and Romania. The starting off of an independent Finnish Language and Literature programme in 1992 meant a historical change and an opportunity to growth. Finnish language and literature is now taught by a team of one Finnish and three local teachers in the framework of a full BA programme.
The graduates of Finnish language and literature studies on the one hand will have a workable knowledge in the field of Finnish language and culture, and on the other hand they will have the necessary skills in order to be employed in fields typically covered by the graduates of the Faculty of Letters of UBB: in language schools, in the cultural life, in the media, at communication companies and in other related fields.

The specialization can be combined with Norwegian as a segment B language. The BA provides courses of Norwegian phonetics, morphology, syntax, lexicology, language variation, literature, translation, culture and civilization, didactics as well as one optional/selected course of Swedish.
