Overview

Translation and Interpreting

Bachelor programme (BA/ BSc)

Faculty of Engineering in Foreign Languages Bucharest

Program description

Why Applied Modern Languages at UTCB? Because we want to offer our undergraduate students something different from what they could find at other universities, namely to deepen their knowledge of foreign languages and to acquire the skills of translators-interpreters specialized in the technical-scientific field, in which Civil Engineering plays an extremely important role.

We all know what it is often said about translations - you only need to know the foreign language and you can translate...

The existence of university degrees in the field should just go to show those who share this view that this is not the case. To become a professional, you need a solid theoretical knowledge, coupled with practical experience and a general knowledge that needs to be constantly enriched.

Does a specialized translator have to "know" all branches of science and technology? Or should he or she cover only a narrow area of knowledge? Neither, but they should have a good command of the Romanian language, the specifics of the specialized/non-literary text, and effective documentation techniques to ensure accurate translation.

If you want a job that gives you flexibility and always challenges you with something new, that does not depend on the disappearance or radical restructuring of fields of activity, essential in today's and tomorrow's global village, and that never lets you get bored, then translation and/or interpreting is what you are looking for.
