Proiect cofinantat din Fondul Social European prin Programul Operational Capital Uman 2014 – 2020
Classical Philology has an ancient and valuable tradition within the University of Cluj. During the interwar period the Classics Department from Cluj-Napoca was one of the most prestigious in the country. Unfortunately, in the Communist era this department was closed down. Due to its prestigious tradition and through the work and efforts of people dedicated to keeping and preserving the values of classical Greco-Roman humanism, the department was reopened after the 1989 Revolution. The Department of Classical Languages and Literatures promotes primarily the study of Greek and Latin Languages and Literatures (the undergraduate students take practical courses in Latin and Greek, as well as mainstream courses and selected topics in Latin and Greek literature and grammar), but it also takes an interest in the survival and transmission of Classics in Transylvania. At the UBB, it is possible either to follow the Classical Philology Programme (Latin and Ancient Greek), or to study Latin and ancient Greek separately, coupled with a major in a Modern Language and Literature (Romanian, English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Russian, Ukrainian, Norwegian, Finnish, Japanese, Chinese, Korean).
