Overview

Microelectronics, Optoelectronics and Nanotechnologies

Bachelor programme (BA/ BSc)

Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Information Technology IAŞI

Program description

Microelectronics, Optoelectronics and Nanotechnologies undergraduate program focuses on IC design, including both, fundamentals and specialized topics related to VLSI analog, digital and mixed IC design technologies respectively and modern applications. The curricula starts with two-year basic education, including courses such as mathematics, physics, programming technologies, electronic components, fundamental electronic circuits & systems and measurement techniques. It continues with two-year specialization in Microelectronics, Optoelectronics and Nanotechnologies. The study program aims to offer our students a broad range of technical competences, including the design of analog VLSI systems,  design of digital VLSI systems, use of hardware description languages for digital design, modelling of electronic devices and circuits for integrated VLSI circuits, the design flow for ASIC/FPGA implementation technologies, testing and verification methods for VLSI systems, the design, numerical simulation and characterization of optoelectronics devices, etc. Close link with top multinational companies, such as Infineon, Microchip, Continental,  Schaeffler (formerly Vitesco Technologies) and Silicon Service improves access to modern technologies and educational.

Based on the knowledge acquired during the first two years, students of  the Microelectronics, Optoelectronics and Nanotechnologies specialization  are trained in the design of very large-scale integrated circuits (VLSI), analog and digital, under the direct guidance of experienced teachers. The analytical programs of the subjects taught target both design aspects and those of actual implementation, with an emphasis on specific details of CMOS, bipolar and BiCMOS technologies, hardware description, layout drawing, encapsulation, testing. The quality of the teaching process is demonstrated by the remarkable results obtained by the students of this specialization in the national phases of the specialized scientific competitions. Thus, it is worth emphasizing the fact that in the last four years, our students have ranked first in the “Tudor Tanasescu” analog integrated circuit design competition, with results superior to those obtained by their colleagues from other university centers.

Students in this specialization are offered the following training areas:

- technological training, through courses such as Technological foundations of microelectronics, Optoelectronics, Structures, technologies, circuits, Hardware description languages, Modeling of electronic components;

- training in the field of digital integrated circuit design through courses in Signal Processing Integrated Circuits, Digital VLSI Design Techniques, Parallel Computing Algorithms and Structures, Reconfigurable VLSI Circuits, Testing and Testability;

- training in the field of analog integrated circuit design through courses in Analog VLSI Design Techniques, Analog Circuit Synthesis.
