Sociology

Sociology is the study of social interactions between individuals and social groups. Sociologists examine not just the sociological, but also the economic, political and cultural contexts of human action, including the way social institutions are created or transformed. Developing an understanding of both social change and social justice is one of the teaching goals here at the University of Alba Iulia, at the same time remaining a consecrated part of the general sociological tradition. In the process, we hope to develop an appreciation for the profession of social science in our students and provide them with the skills for success: keen observation, methodological inquiry, and rigorous research. Teachers from Social Science Department are conducting research on a wide range of topics, such as: social assistance, territorial development, labour studies, urban development, migration and social movement, globalisation and social effects, inequality in global context, community development and sustainability, crime and deviance, drug use and on various other social topics like identity, ethnography, communication, etc.
