Master programme (Ma/ MSc)

THE FACULTY OF LETTERS GALAŢI

Program description

This MA programme, taught exclusively in English, was accredited in 2011 and reorganised in 2016 as a research-based Masters programme for candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in Philology. It combines teaching through a combination of lectures and seminars with a one-semester research training module organised within the Research Centre of the English Department from the Faculty of Letters, and it is assessed through a dissertation based on an individual research project. Interdisciplinary in focus, its courses explore critical, theoretical, and contextual approaches to film, literature and cultural representation, offering methodological skills to dissect literary conventions and filmic architectures, highlight the politics, ethics and aesthetics of both media, apply diverse reading grids (from cultural studies to feminism, post-colonialism and imagology) to such texts or approach issues of adaptation and transmediality with regard to myth, Shakespearean drama, or the Gothic and the Science Fiction genres. The programme offers a foundation for students who pursue a PhD or a career in research, and ensures transferable skills for employment routes in education, diverse cultural/socio-economic areas and the mass-media.
