Faculty of Letters CLUJ-NAPOCA

Program description

Curriculum: The Master of Arts in British Cultural Studies at Babeș-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca, Romania is a full-time programme which runs for two years from the beginning of October of each year to the end of June of next year. It is a fully contemporary and interdisciplinary programme, having as main objective the development both of knowledge and of research skills, aiming, at the same time, to create a context for the study of British culture and to establish a framework of enquiry into the ways in which a complex society defines and represents itself through language, text, image, social practice and political philosophy. While it recognises the importance of traditional humanities study in history, literature and language, the programme also seeks to bring these into line with the newer disciplines of sociology, gender, postcolonialism, media studies and cultural criticism.

Career opportunities: teacher; literary secretary; terminologist; interpreter for broadcasting services; assistant researcher in linguistics; assistant researcher in philology, etc.

Further academic training: the department offers the opportunity to apply for a PhD programme.
