Master programme (Ma/ MSc)

Theatre Faculty Bucharest

Program description

The scientific Master's programme in Theatre and Performance Studies offers students a unique opportunity in our country to study for two years with professors and specialists in the field of theory, aesthetics and history of theatre and performance. The purpose of this programme is to encourage a rigorous exploration of theatre theory, to stimulate critical thinking and to encourage interdisciplinary research in the field of performing arts and performance, which in the last two decades has experienced rapid development in our country.

At the same time, this program aims at professionalization in the field of scientific and artistic research, by studying research methodologies and methods based on artistic practices (Practice as Research, Practice-based research). To this end, the curriculum contains two courses dedicated to artistic research: Research through theater and performing arts as well as Performance as an experiment. The Master's programme prepares students for a career either inside or outside academia. It is intended to serve as a preparatory course for students wishing to pursue a PhD, helping them to develop their scientific research/artistic research skills, but is also suitable for those who wish to improve their knowledge of contemporary theatre in order to be able become practitioners in the field.
At the end of the studies, each MA student will have the opportunity to put their knowledge to use in an individual theoretical research project (dissertation thesis), as well as through the portfolio of studies and articles published during the two years of the master's.
