Program description

Romanian Language and Literature—Foreign Language and Literature is the main study direction, both by tradition and by the number of students and teaching staff. Until 1990, it was the only department of the Faculty of Letters.

The curriculum is structured to primarily prepare teachers for primary and secondary education, as well as professors for higher education, researchers in philological fields (linguistics, criticism, literary history, and theory), editors, and proofreaders. Through foreign language courses, students are also prepared to become foreign language teachers or translators. Some of the faculty graduates become journalists in print media, radio, and television, managers, or cultural officials in public and private institutions. These, and many others, are professions that the institution fosters through the formation of a philological general culture and the refinement of expression skills. The foreign language studied can be, depending on the number of available places and the candidate's score in the entrance exam: English, French, German, Russian, Spanish, Italian, Latin, Portuguese.

Through modern methods of didactic interaction, students are trained in the spirit of free exchange of ideas, social dialogue, and responsible choices.
