“Dunarea de Jos” University of Galati, as a public institution, assumes the mission to train specialists, at the level of excellence, in diverse socio-economic domains, to participate in sustaining and disseminating science and culture, and to contribute to enriching the national knowledge patrimony through scientific research, knowledge and innovation, permanent learning and interculturality. “Dunarea de Jos” University of Galati sustains and promotes its strategies within the local regional, national and international community.

Dunarea de Jos" University of Galati has a permanent presence in international rankings: QS Emerging Europe and Central Asia (EECA) University Rankings, The Times Higher Education (THE), U-Multiranking, etc. At the same time, the university organizes unique study programs with a long tradition in Romanian higher education. Last, but not least, at the moment the institution is implementing the project called REXDAN, which consists of two components: a research ship (the most modern inland research ship in Europe) and a fixed system of laboratories complementary to those on the research ship.

The university offers accommodation to incoming exchange students in one of the three Student Dormitories, comfortably suitable for accommodation and study purposes, with all necessary facilities including bathrooms,kitchens, self-service washing- machine room              and Wi-Fi internet access. Other relevant information:

1. Before the beginning of each semester, the Erasmus Office offers, free of charge, a 2-week intensive course in Romanian language and civilization.
2. The Erasmus Office has volunteers who will help the incoming students with the first steps of living and studying in Galati.

Galati Student’s League

The oldest and most important student organisation is the Galati Student’sLeague, with a history of 17 years in student representation. It is a student syndicate that actively promotes, encourages and defends student rights at a local and at a national level. It is a fully privileged member of ANOSR – (The National Association of Student Organisations from Romania), which is a member of ESU.

Mainly created for Economical and Commercial Science Students, but they accept students with other majors too. It is an international profession-based organization that emphasizes on practical projects and demonstrations and on cultural exchanges. Offers international student exchange opportunities.

ASCOR– Romanian Christian Orthodox Students Association

Mainly for students majoring in Theology, but open to anybody willing to adhere. It organizes many religious and spiritual activities, including conferences, concerts, poetry contests, plays, pilgrimages. The Galaţi Student’s League has a long-time collaboration with ASCOR and they often organize joint events or participate in each other’s activities.

The Bessarabian Student’s League

It is part of the Galati Student’s League and was specially created to meet the needs of Romanian ethnic students coming from Bessarabia. It tends to the needs of these particular students and has projects such as the Bessarabian Freshmen Tutoring Programme, which includes a complete guide on how to arrive in Galati, become a student at “Dunărea de Jos' University and start college life. Students also receive a personal tutor in the person of an older, more experienced Bessarabian student. This club also hosts a celebration for its anniversary which includes a full week of creative events and activities.
