Why study in Iași
Iași is one of the most important university centres in Romania and here you will find the first Romanian university – Alexandru Ioan Cuza University. The city is one of the oldest in Romania and has a unique character built around its history, culture and religious life. It was first the capital of the Principality of Moldavia (1564 to 1859), then of the United Principalities (1859 to 1862).
It is one of the very few cities with more than 100 churches, with ”St. Paraschieva” Metropolitan Cathedral or the “Trei Ierarhi” Monastery as some of the most representative ones, the latter being part of the tentative list of UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Palace of Culture, which was built on the old ruins of the medieval Princely Court of Moldavia, is a marvellous piece of architecture, with an impressive park around it. The city also has a lot of interesting museums and beautiful parks.
